Hello,
At the Technical University of Denmark we have access to a Hounsfield H20K-W instrument which we would like to use for tensile testing of thin film strips (50-100 microns in thickness). We have obtained stress at break values but really also need accurate strain% measurements so that we can characterise percent elongation at break as well as modulus values. Could you please advise regarding the extensometers which you would recommend for such work? Also, is it possible to connect a laptop computer to such an instrument to download data? Finally, do you have service personnel for this instrument in Scandinavia?
Thank you.

ANSWER
Dear David,
The H20KW was designed as a low cost tensile tester primarilly for the Educational Market. The only extensometer available for this machine is our PS50 which is a 50mm gauge length extensometer for metals. This would not be suitable for thin strips. It is possible however to use the built in crosshead movement to display extension in mm or %. but not to measure Modulus. You may wish to refer to other answers on the website regarding Modulus measurements.
Tinius olsen offer a basic software package for the W Series machines. It allows you to output raw data directly into Excel and plot test curves etc.
Tinius Olsen does have Sales and Service Representatives in Scandinavia (and in most Countries throughout the world). I will pass your information on to my colleagues in our Export Sales Dept and ask for somebody to contact you.
Best Regards,
David
