Tinius Olsen to announce 12 new developments at Interplas Interplas Stand Number: Hall 4, Stand F255.
Materials testing equipment experts Tinius Olsen will be using the Interplas Show in September to announce the addition of 12 new developments to their extensive range of testing equipment, details of which will be available at the show.
Hounsfield at the Heart of Medical Research
A Scottish friend tells me that in Glasgow if you order a meat pie from a chip shop it will be deep fried like fish and chips. Furthermore a local delicacy is a famous chocolate bar coated in batter and deep fried. It comes as no surprise therefore that some parts of Scotland have high levels of heart disease.
Glasgow University of Cardiac Surgery conduct research into base properties of heart valve leaflet material made from polyurethane. Dr Gill Bernacca uses a Hounsfield H10KS machine, as part of her Research to perform tensile and elongation tests on the material quickly and accurately.
The system chosen was the Hounsfield H10KS machine, accessories and QMat Professional Software. QMat software enables users to create their own test protocols quickly and easily. Test results and curves may be printed off or stored for analysis at a later date.
Hounsfield was chosen from a number of possible suppliers because of its reputation for quality, after sales service and versatile, easy to use software.
Hounsfield Helps Save Lives
The Construction Industry has traditionally had a poor safety record. This is now changing and new regulations have been introduced to help prevent accidents. One of these is a requirement for scaffolding safety netting. This is to prevent a worker falling through the gaps in scaffolding.
The netting is manufactured with spare meshes attached. One mesh must be cut off every year and tested to ensure the netting has not deteriorated beyond a certain minimum safety level.
Hounsfield/Tinius Olsen has supplied Testing systems to DuroScaf in Castleford, West Yorkshire, Rafwell in Doncaster and Swale Scaffolding in Richmond North Yorkshire.
All use the Hounsfield/Tinius Olsen H10KS 10kN capacity universal test machine with 10kN capacity hook grips. Software is not required for this application as the H10KS and any “S” Series Hounsfield/Tinius Olsen machine will print off a test report with statistics and a test curve directly from the stand alone machine without the need for additional software.
Hounsfield Sews up the Suture Industry
Ethicon, part of the Johnson and Johnson Group, are a world famous manufacturer of sutures. Some years ago whilst visiting their Edinburgh site, to discuss the purchase of a second Hounsfield Tensile Tester, I was asked if the Company could help solve a problem they had, proof load testing, the needle to thread bond strength.
Why can’t I measure Young’s Modulus and Proof Stress in Metals using crosshead movement?
Young’s Modulus is the slope of the Stress v Strain curve measured from the origin of the curve. The initial strain in the test sample is very small so that any movement in the machine itself, in the load cell or any “take up” movement in the grips is large in comparison to the initial strain in the test sample.
